It was a case of “Mother Hubbard’s cupboard” today in the kitchen of Kelowna’s Gospel Mission. Fortunately we had Chef Paul Cecconi and Chef Edan Fay to create lunch.
Both chefs arrived to find their skills and creativity would seriously be put to the test – not quite the bounty of donations as in past rounds.
Chef Edan found some pears and sweet potatoes, Chef Paul once again went for an armload of veggies.
Chef Edan created a Carmelized Pear and Sweet Potato, with onion and thyme Bannock crutons.
Chef Paul made a twist on traditional borsch, and went with a Carrot Borsch with Onion and Pickle Chutney.
Our judges today had a tough choice – and when the results were tallied – only 2 points seperated each soup, and the Carrot Borsch was the winner!
